We’re delighted to announce that Alex Winter MRCVS has joined the Home Visit Pet Care Wigan team as our newest Veterinary Surgeon. Alex completed his first day with us yesterday and has already shown exactly why we’re so excited to have him onboard.
Alex brings a wealth of first-opinion experience, a calm and compassionate approach, and a genuine passion for providing veterinary care in the comfort of pets’ own homes. In fact, home visits have always been a favourite part of his career. In his own words, some of his most fulfilling experiences came from visiting pets who struggled to travel or owners who needed that extra support at home.
While working in North Wales, Alex regularly volunteered for house call consults, finding that with strong interpersonal skills and an understanding of animal behaviour, even the more challenging cases became rewarding for pets and owners alike. He’s especially passionate about delivering gentle, dignified end-of-life care at home, describing it as an essential and deeply important part of the profession.
Why Alex Chose Home Visit Pet Care
After spending time in a busy traditional practice, Alex wanted to move away from the “run around or you’re not doing enough” culture that so many vets face. He told us he was looking for a role where he could provide high-quality, unhurried care; and where home visits were truly valued rather than squeezed into an already overstretched schedule.
When he found our vacancy, he said the match felt immediate. “I’ve always believed that home visits are an important part of veterinary care. Your model lets me do what I know I can do well.”
We couldn’t agree more; and we’re proud to offer an environment where vets can work safely, with time, space, and support to do their best work.

He will be supporting clients across the Wigan area during our home visit rounds.
