We're Hiring! Pet & People Coordinator – Wigan

Monday to Friday | 9am–5pm | Wigan Town Centre

Love animals? Brilliant with people? We might have the perfect job for you! 💜

Home Visit Pet Care Wigan is growing, and we're looking for a friendly, organised and compassionate Pet & People Coordinator to join our team at our Wigan town-centre clinic.

This is a full-time position, working Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

We're looking for someone who loves helping people, enjoys keeping things running smoothly and wants to become an important part of a small, independent veterinary practice that's doing things a little differently.

You don't need to be a veterinary professional to apply. Previous experience in veterinary reception, customer service or administration would be fantastic, but we're just as interested in finding someone with the right personality, attitude and enthusiasm.

After all, great pet care isn't just about looking after animals. It's about looking after their people, too!

A veterinary practice built differently

Home Visit Pet Care Wigan isn't your typical veterinary practice.

We're an independent, nurse-owned business, founded by Registered Veterinary Nurse Louise Jamieson, with a mission to make veterinary care more accessible, personal and less stressful for pets and their owners.

Unlike traditional veterinary practices, much of our work takes place in people's homes. Our team of vets and veterinary nurses travels across the Wigan area, providing everything from routine preventative care and diagnostics to compassionate end-of-life support.

We also have our own clinic in the heart of Wigan town centre, where we provide consultations, nurse appointments and a growing range of veterinary services.

Many of our clients are elderly, vulnerable or have pets who struggle with traditional veterinary visits. For them, having a friendly, patient and understanding person at the other end of the telephone can make an enormous difference.

That's where you come in!

What does a Pet & People Coordinator do?

Put simply, you'll help us look after the people who look after their pets!

You'll be one of the friendly faces and voices of Home Visit Pet Care, helping our clients feel welcome, supported and confident that their pets are in good hands.

You'll also play an important role behind the scenes, helping our busy veterinary team stay organised and making sure everything runs as smoothly as possible.

It's a varied role combining customer service, appointment coordination, administration and general practice support.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Being a friendly first point of contact for clients, whether by telephone, email, online message or in person.
  • Welcoming clients and their pets to our Wigan clinic.
  • Booking and coordinating veterinary appointments, including home visits and clinic consultations.
  • Helping clients understand our services and find the most appropriate appointment options.
  • Managing appointment diaries and supporting our mobile vets and nurses with their daily schedules.
  • Keeping client information and pet records accurate and up to date using our practice management software.
  • Taking payments and assisting with general administrative duties.
  • Helping coordinate prescription and medication collections in accordance with practice procedures.
  • Supporting the wider team with everyday organisational tasks.
  • Following up on client enquiries and ensuring messages reach the right members of our team.
  • Helping maintain a welcoming, friendly and organised clinic environment.
  • Offering kindness, reassurance and understanding to clients, particularly when they're worried about their pets.

One moment you might be arranging a puppy's first vaccination, the next helping an elderly client organise a home visit, or supporting someone through a difficult decision about their beloved pet.

No two days will be exactly the same!

And don't worry, we won't expect you to provide veterinary advice. Our qualified vets and nurses will always handle clinical questions and decisions.

Who are we looking for?

We're far more interested in finding the right person than someone with a particular job title on their CV.

You might already work in veterinary reception, have experience in another healthcare setting, or come from a completely different customer-facing background.

We'd love to hear from you if you're someone who:

  • Loves people AND pets! You enjoy meeting people, making them feel welcome and helping wherever you can.
  • Is naturally organised. You enjoy keeping things on track, managing multiple tasks and paying attention to the little details.
  • Communicates brilliantly. You're friendly, confident and comfortable speaking to people on the telephone, in person and in writing.
  • Has patience and empathy. You understand that clients may be worried, upset, elderly or vulnerable, and you know how important kindness can be.
  • Is comfortable with technology. You're confident using computers and happy to learn new software and systems.
  • Can keep a cool head. When several things happen at once, you can prioritise, stay calm and work through them.
  • Has a positive, can-do attitude. You're happy to get involved and help colleagues when needed.
  • Is reliable and takes pride in their work. You understand how important your role is to the rest of the team.
  • Enjoys being part of a team. You're supportive, approachable and happy to contribute ideas.

Previous veterinary experience would be an advantage, but it isn't essential.

We'll help you learn our systems, understand our services and get to know how our practice operates.

What matters most is finding someone who genuinely cares about providing great service and wants to make a positive difference.

Why join Home Visit Pet Care?

We're proud to be a small, independent veterinary business, and we believe the people behind the scenes are every bit as important as those providing clinical care.

Our vets and nurses couldn't do what they do without great support, and that's why this position is so important to us.

Here's what makes this opportunity a little different:

  • Monday to Friday working hours: A regular 9am–5pm schedule, with no weekend shifts.
  • An independent, nurse-owned practice: We're not part of a large corporate veterinary chain.
  • A friendly, close-knit team: You'll be working alongside people who genuinely care about their patients and clients.
  • A role that makes a difference: Many of our clients rely on home veterinary care because visiting a traditional practice isn't easy.
  • Variety in your working day: From coordinating home visits to welcoming clinic clients, there's always something happening.
  • A growing business: We're developing our services, expanding our team and continuing to build something we're really proud of.
  • An opportunity to make the role your own: We value initiative, fresh ideas and people who take pride in helping a business run well.

We want someone who will become a valued member of our team, build relationships with our clients and help us deliver the friendly, personal service we're known for.

If you're looking for a role where you'll be appreciated, trusted and genuinely make a difference, we'd love to hear from you.
