Helping Pets Move Better: Veterinary Physiotherapy Now Available at Home or in Our Wigan Clinic

We are delighted to announce that Home Visit Pet Care Wigan is now working in partnership with qualified Veterinary Physiotherapist Eve Cranston.

Eve will be providing veterinary physiotherapy appointments for our patients, with the choice of treatment in the comfort of your own home or at our Wigan clinic.

Whether your pet is recovering from an operation, living with an ongoing mobility problem or simply beginning to slow down, physiotherapy can form an important part of keeping them comfortable, active and enjoying life.

Meet Eve

Eve is an independent, fully qualified and insured Veterinary Physiotherapist and Canine Hydrotherapist.

She holds a master’s degree in Veterinary Physiotherapy and is registered with the National Association of Veterinary Physiotherapists and the Animal Health Professions’ Register. She also holds canine hydrotherapy and advanced aquatic treadmill therapy qualifications and has extensive practical experience supporting canine rehabilitation patients.

What is veterinary physiotherapy?

Veterinary physiotherapy is a science-led approach to assessing and supporting an animal’s movement, comfort and physical function.

It can be used as part of recovery following an injury or operation, to support pets living with long-term conditions, or to help maintain mobility and quality of life as animals grow older. Every patient is assessed individually, with treatment adapted to their particular condition, behaviour, lifestyle and progress.

Physiotherapy may be helpful for pets experiencing:

• Stiffness or reduced mobility
• Arthritis and age-related changes
• Muscle weakness or loss of condition
• Recovery following surgery
• Recovery following an injury
• Joint, muscle or soft-tissue problems
• Difficulty with stairs, getting up or getting into the car
• Changes in posture, balance or movement
• Reduced confidence when walking or exercising

It can also provide ongoing support for active dogs and pets that need help maintaining strength, flexibility and comfortable movement.

What happens during an appointment?

An assessment and treatment appointment is provided as one complete session.

Eve will begin by discussing your pet’s history, current difficulties and normal routine. She will then assess areas such as their movement, posture, joints, muscles and overall physical function.

Treatment will be tailored to what Eve finds during the assessment and may include physical therapy, electrotherapy and practical management advice. Where appropriate, Eve can also provide an individual exercise programme for you to continue safely between appointments.

Your pet will be reassessed during future sessions so that their treatment can be adjusted as their strength, movement or comfort changes.

Laser therapy

Eve will also be offering dedicated therapeutic laser sessions.

Laser therapy, sometimes called photobiomodulation, uses carefully controlled light energy as a non-invasive treatment. It may be used to help reduce inflammation and discomfort and to support tissue repair and rehabilitation. It can be used alongside physiotherapy exercises, physical treatment and wider veterinary care.

Eve will advise whether laser therapy is appropriate for your pet and how frequently it may be beneficial.

This can be particularly helpful for older pets, animals with restricted mobility, nervous dogs or owners who may struggle to transport their pet.

Your pet can be assessed in familiar surroundings, and Eve can also see practical details such as flooring, steps, sleeping arrangements and how your pet moves around their normal environment.

At the Home Visit Pet Care Wigan clinic

Clinic appointments provide a calm, dedicated space for assessment and treatment. They may suit owners who would prefer to bring their pet to us or who are already visiting the clinic for other veterinary care.

Prices

Veterinary physiotherapy assessment and treatment:
£72 including VAT

This is one complete appointment incorporating both the assessment and appropriate treatment.

Therapeutic laser session:
£36 including VAT

Working together for your pet

Eve will work alongside our veterinary and nursing team, allowing us to provide more joined-up support for pets experiencing mobility difficulties, recovering from surgery or managing longer-term conditions.

Having Eve available both in the clinic and for home appointments means that we can provide a service built around the needs of the individual patient, rather than asking every animal to fit into the same approach.

For physiotherapy relating to an injury, diagnosed condition or post-operative rehabilitation, your pet must first have been examined by a veterinary surgeon and physiotherapy agreed. Our team can help arrange this where required.
